A robot cell is usually sold around its automatic cycle. Many of the most difficult interactions happen outside that cycle: setup, teaching, cleaning, jam recovery, inspection and maintenance.
Map every operating mode
List normal production, manual setup, programming, maintenance and fault recovery. For each mode, identify who enters the area, what can move, which energy sources remain present and how control is transferred.
Design access with the task
Guards and interlocks must support the real work. Poor access encourages awkward maintenance and unsafe workarounds. Tooling position, visibility, component weight and the location of isolation points belong in the design review.
Define recovery before commissioning
A cell needs a documented way to recover from dropped parts, sensor faults and interrupted cycles. The sequence should protect people and equipment while making product status clear.
Test unusual conditions
Acceptance testing should include more than continuous production. Test stops, restarts, mode changes, loss of utilities and representative faults. The best automatic cycle is incomplete if the team cannot safely return it to service.
